The Bayley Scales of Infant Development (BSID-II), Second Edition is an individually administered test that assesses the current developmental functioning of infants and children from the ages of 1 month to 42 months. BSID-II consists of three scales: mental, motor and behavior rating scale. The main purpose of the test is to diagnose developmental delay and plan intervention strategies. 

Suggested uses of the Bayley Scales of Infant Development, Second Edition include:

Identify children who are developmentally delayed

Assess "high risk" populations such as:

-premature infants

-prenatally drug exposed infants

- autistic children

-children with Down syndrome

Provide clinicians with a way to monitor and design intervention programs
